City of Norco: Sobriety / Driver’s License Checkpoint Results

Checkpoint Results:

The Norco Office of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and Norco Citizen’s Patrol conducted a DUI/Driver’s License Safety Checkpoint on August 22, 2009. The checkpoint began at 7:00 p.m. and ended on August 23, 2009, at 3:00 a.m. The checkpoint was located on Hamner Avenue and School Street, in the City of Norco. The California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has provided grant funding for sobriety checkpoints to be conducted by local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to combat the increase in collisions involving impaired drivers.

Five hundred and sixteen of the 862 drivers who entered the checkpoint were screened. Nineteen drivers were given Field Sobriety Tests, which resulted in 7 drivers being arrested for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and/or drugs. Sixty drivers were issued citations. Sixteen vehicles were stored during the operation of which 10 were 30-day impounds.

For additional information contact Sgt. Adam Vallejo at the Norco Office at (951) 270-5673.

Details:

The Norco Office of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department will conduct a DUI/Driver’s License Safety checkpoint in Norco on August 22, 2009, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify DUI drivers and get them off the street, to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers.

This checkpoint is part of the City of Norco’s effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved collisions and in collisions with unlicensed drivers.

Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles will be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested. Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and/or drugs. The public is encouraged to help keep the roadways safe by calling 911 if they see an impaired driver.

I'm glad the city of Norco makes the effort to do this. Out of all the cities I lived in, you guys do it more often than most...or at least it seems that way! It is a hassle and I even get irritated when I pull up-usually have my screaming/tired kids and I'm just anxious to get home. But I don't drink or do drugs and always confident to drive on by. Hope you are putting in the same efforts to keep wierdos off the street too! Such as rapist, child molestors, etc.
