SCS Engineers to perform a community-wide brownfields assessment

Definition: With certain legal exclusions and additions, the term "brownfield site" means real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.

Corona, CA: SCS Engineers has been awarded a $377,500 contract by the City of Corona to perform a community-wide brownfields assessment.

SCS will complete an area-wide inventory, incorporating the inventory into a Geographic Information System (GIS), identifying site selection criteria for Phase I environmental site assessments, conducting Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments, cleanup planning, and performing public outreach. In addition, SCS will guide city officials through the grant management process and consult on the EPA Brownfields Program and environmental issues. The project is funded by two Environmental Protection Agency Brownfields Program grants totaling $400,000.

“Brownfield assessments are a critical first step to redeveloping environmentally impaired properties,” said Daniel E. Johnson, SCS Vice President and San Diego Operations Manager. “This assessment will provide valuable information to help city officials improve these sites and ensure that the City of Corona remains a safe and sustainable community.”

Mr. Johnson is Project Principal from SCS Engineers and Nicki Field will serve as Project Manager. Subconsultants on the SCS team include KWC Engineers and Baxter Miller Landscape Architects, consulting firms based in the City of Corona.
