The Democratic challenger for California’s 44th District congressional seat is calling on Republican incumbent Ken Calvert to reimburse taxpayers for use of so-called “franked” campaign mailers. Bill Hedrick says Calvert’s abusing a congressional privilege to give himself an unfair election-time advantage.
“Franking” is the practice of sending out unsolicited campaign mailers on the taxpayer’s dime.

RIVERSIDE, CA: Zombies far and wide are invited to recreate Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video in Riverside on Saturday to try to set a Southern California record for the largest number of dancers.
The re-staging of the 1982 video in front of the Riverside courthouse on the eve of what would have been Jackson's 52nd birthday is being sponsored by the California Riverside Ballet and the city of Riverside.

The death of LPGA star Erica Blasberg has officially been ruled as a suicide ... this according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.
According to the coroner, 25-year-old Blasberg was found dead with a plastic bag over her head at her Henderson, Nevada home back on May 9.

The following post is a guest post from UC Riverside PhD student and blogger Justin Nelson. It appears that planning for HSR stations along the Los Angeles to San Diego Section is moving away from the Authority’s commitment to downtown stations in favor of greenfield sites (described below), or in the case of San Diego, at the airport (rather than their vibrant downtown). This does not bode well for ridership along this portion of the system and indicates that the Inland Empire and San Diego still have not fully embraced a more transit-oriented future and continue to see HSR stations like airports, places where people drive and park, rather than places that great urbanism is built upon.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has ruled the death of professional golfer Erica Blasberg a suicide, and although Henderson police do not suspect foul play, they have issued an arrest warrant for her doctor, Thomas Hess.
Hess faces obstruction of justice charges after police said he removed a suicide note from the scene and hid it in his vehicle, along with prescription medications from Blasberg’s Henderson home.
