Library schedules classes in English

A new class that teaches English as a second language is scheduled to start Friday in Corona.
The Corona Public Library plans to hold the class from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at 650 S. Main St. People will
be able to learn conversational and written English from beginning to intermediate levels. They will
also have a chance to improve their pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar.

Bingo event benefits Ronald McDonald

The Norco American Legion Hall Post 328 will host the 10th annual marathon bingo fund-raiser for
Camp Ronald McDonald and Ronald McDonald House from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday.
Camp Ronald McDonald in Idyllwild is for children with cancer. It has a medical facility to treat the
children while they are away from home. The camp gives their parents a rest for a week. There is
no cost to the family for the stay. Ronald McDonald House in Loma Linda is a place for parents to
go while their children are being treated for cancer at the Loma Linda University Medical Center. It
is funded by events like the one in Norco.
Norco resident Pat Martin, who is chairwoman of the bingo, said the Legion hall at Sixth and old
Hamner Road allows the event to be held rent-free.

Historic society plans vintage home tour

A vintage home tour is scheduled for May 3 in Corona.
The Corona Historic Preservation Society plans to hold the tour from 1 to 4:30 p.m., starting at
1052 E. Grand Blvd, Corona. There will also be antique automobiles on display at that address. The
cost is $15 if tickets are purchased in advance and $18 the day of the event.

The Corona Genealogical Society plans to hold an event Monday titled "Shaking the Myth:
Proving/Disproving Family Legends." The event will be from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at

Aviation task force postpones meeting

The May 6 meeting of the Mayor's Task Force on Aviation Safety was canceled this week to give the
members of the nine-person panel more time to work on their findings about safety conditions in
Corona skyways.
Instead, the next task force meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 20 in City Council Chambers, 400 S.
Vicentia Ave. The task force was established to evaluate local aviation safety following the Jan. 20
midair crash of two small planes that killed five people, including one man on the ground. Next
month, the panel is expected to compile findings about local conditions and possibly to make
recommendations to the Corona City Council about improving safety at and around the Corona
Municipal Airport.

Clubs to hold benefit luncheon May 7

The Corona Elks and the Corona Host Lions Club will hold their second Charities for Children
luncheon from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 7 at the Outback Steakhouse, 151 McKinley Ave.
The restaurant is donating food, drinks and service for the event. Money raised from the event will
benefit children in the Corona area. Last year the club earned $4,400.

Basketball fundraiser to help candidate

The Los Angeles Breakers Dwarf Basketball team plans to play a scrimmage against teachers and
coaches from Corona, Centennial and Santiago High Schools May 9 in Corona.
The game is set to start at 7 p.m. at Corona High School, 1150 W. 10th St.
It's a fundraiser for Corona City Council candidate Jason Scott.
Cost: $12 for adults and $6 for children the day of the game, and $10 for adults and $5 for
children if tickets are purchased in advance.

social with Norco School alumni, historic ranch tour and first-ever trail ride around Lake Norconian.
The events mark the 85th anniversary of the town's founding by Rex Clark.
Tickets for the dance and dinner are available at the Boot Barn, Thornton's Ice Cream and the
Norco Chamber of Commerce. Money raised by the event will benefit the Norco Regional
Conservancy, which is working to preserve the Depression-era Norconian hotel and resort that Clark
built.

22nd Annual "Run for the Crown" 5k/1k Run

Alumni of Norco's original school -- a building designed by Mission Inn architect G. Stanley Wilson
that is now the city's community center -- are invited to a free ice cream social at 1 p.m. May 11 at

The event sponsored by Thornton's Ice Cream is part of a weekend-long celebration of Norco's
founding in 1923.

Prison officers to hold Hope For Life Ride

Officers from the California Department of Corrections plan to hold their annual Hope For Life Ride
on May 17 in Norco.
The Motors For Mito/Taryns Hope For Life Ride is set to start at 10 a.m. by tower eight at the

Fundraiser set to aid city's police, fire

The Corona Police Community Partnership and Corona Fire Safety Foundation will hold The Great
Taste, a fundraiser to assist the police and fire departments of the city, on June 7 at 1250 Corona
Pointe.
The event, which runs from 5 to 8 p.m., gives people the chance to sample food from area
restaurants. Presale tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for children, 10 and older. Day of the event
tickets are priced at $25 for adults and $15 for children 10 and older.

The Corona Senior Center is offering a new class, "Cooking with Chef Martha," designed to educate
seniors on healthy cooking through demonstrations, lectures and hands-on participation. The first
